Background
Compassion and understanding
Earlier in my life I was very much into sport. I became a school teacher, then
worked at the BBC Open University – Social Sciences, particularly on the
psychology side. Following this I have been a Human Resources Manager
within manufacturing and the fire and rescue service. As a result, I have a
diversified background of life skills.
In 2014, expecting to retire, I became victim of the 1950’s women pension
injustice situation. I had first hand experience of this, but more importantly
was acutely aware of the repercussions to 1950’s women and their families
throughout the UK.
As a result of the fallout that was occurring, I retrained and hence have been
assisting all age groups, all sexes, all cultures, physical and visually impaired
clients where I can.
Covid has exacerbated mental health problems, particularly for those fighting
to understand new technologies; being on their own; fear of the future and
coping with bereavement and loss. There are a whole gambit of issues that
require compassion and understanding.
As well as counselling work I have also been a Management Trainer and have
written and facilitated for a wide range of topics for example:
Effective Communication. Managing People. Team Building. Counselling skills.
Personal Development. Customer Care. Redundancy and won an
Esso/Industrial Society Women in Management award.
